The United States and Saint Lucia are united in our shared democratic values and cultural and linguistic diversity.
We cooperate on a wide range of issues – including at the Organization of American States, whose Permanent Council was chaired by Saint Lucia last summer.

Smithsonian Scientists Explain Spread of Chikungunya Vector Tropical Disease Detected in US
The tropical disease chikungunya began twisting Western tongues in July when the first locally transmitted case was reported in Florida. Spotted in the Caribbean just last year, the disease spread explosively throughout the Americas in 2014. Chikungunya’s arrival in Panama prompted Smithsonian scientists to examine how human activity spreads its mosquito vector and the serious implications this has for disease ecology everywhere.
U.S. CBP Premieres New Welcome Videos for International Air Travelers
WASHINGTON—U.S. Customs and Border Protection welcomes more than 100 million international air travelers to the United States each year. CBP premiered four new videos today that demonstrate the improved international arrivals experience and better explain CBP entry procedures to arriving international travelers. The videos are available in several languages on CBP.gov, will be shown in the international arrivals areas at major airports, and will be provided to airlines and airports to incorporate into their existing traveler communication efforts.

Volcano Eruption in Cape Verde forcing Evacuations.
The Pico do Fogo volcano on the Cape Verdean island of Fogo erupted Sunday morning, prompting the evacuation of at least one nearby village.
The explosions started around 10 a.m. local time, a geophysicist who studies the volcano told a Cape Verdean English news website. Seismic activity at the site had been unusual for days, he added.
